BMGT 152 Business Law II

This course provides students with an opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the study of law and its impact on business. Students will continue to build upon their analytical, writing, and vocabulary skills as they relate to business and the law. Instruction will focus on case studies dealing with agency and employment law, real and personal property, bailments, wills and estates, negotiable instruments, and the three major forms of business organization - sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation. The knowledge and skills are valuable for students interested in pursuing a career in business, human resources, management, alternative dispute resolution, sales, entrepreneurship, law, real estate, and banking.

Course Objectives

  1. Analyze complex cases and effectively articulate legal issues, both orally and in writing.
  2. Compare and contrast the various forms of business ownership, including formation, operation and
    dissolution of sole proprietorships, partnerships and corporations.
  3. Distinguish between real and personal property, bailments, wills and trusts, and landlord/tenant.
  4. Discuss essential elements of an agency relationship, as well as the duties and liabilities of the parties.
  5. Define concepts and principles of negotiable instruments and their application.
  6. Define basic business legal terminology.
  7. Describe the fundamental aspects of employment law.
  8. Discuss current trends in the business law environment.
