THET 260 Voice and Diction for the Actor

This course is intended to strengthen acting students’ experience and understanding of the basic tools of communication, voice, and diction. Class exercises will include relaxation, alignment, breathing, resonation, articulation, vocal range, and inflection. Students will develop a knowledge and sense of their own voice and how to vocally reflect beat changes and character habits with this information. Students will demonstrate mastery of the International Phonetic Alphabet through testing and several memorized performances. Students will demonstrate how these vocal techniques can further their performances of dramatic texts.
