THET 137 Sound I

The purpose of this course is to enable students to safely work with basic sound equipment for the stage and provide a basic understanding of audio technology along with new innovations in audio technology. This will include working with microphones, amplifiers, mixers, tape decks, and equalizers.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Articulate and demonstrate the uses and properties of sound design for the stage.
  2. 2. Gain an understanding of how sound design supports theatrical productions from the technical aspects of
    sound engineering.
  3. 3. Explain the physics and engineering needed to understand acoustics for the stage.
  4. 4. Recall the various types of transducers and their applications.
  5. 5. Identify and describe major changes and innovations in audio technology.
  6. 6. Explain the types and uses of filtration, limiting, delay, and compressions devices.
  7. 7. Evaluate and articulate the different types and uses of amplification devices.
  8. 8. Evaluate and articulate the different types and uses of sound reproduction devices.
  9. 9. Identify and distinguish the differences in the sound design from other styles and cultural theatrical
    productions.
