RADT 251 Radiation Biology and Protection
This course presents principles of cell radiation and the responsibility of the radiographer to protect patients, personnel and the public from the effects of radiation. Content is designed to provide an overview of the principles of the interaction of radiation with living systems. Radiation effects on molecules, cells, tissues and the body as a whole are presented. Factors affecting biological response are presented, including acute and chronic effects of radiation. Additional topics included calculations of permissible radiation dosage and the effect of federal/state laws and regulations on radiation protection. Emphasis will also be placed on preparing students for the national certification examination.
