NURS 124 LPN Transition Concepts
This course provides an introduction to the role transition from licensed practical nurse to registered nurse. Concepts from the biophysical, psychosocial, and nursing domains will be explored and select content from
NURS 142 and
NURS 143 will be presented. Clinical decision making skills and competencies are developed through learning experiences in the classroom, clinical setting, skills laboratory, and simulation to provide safe, patient-centered care. Progression to the second year of the Nursing associate degree program will occur after completion of this course.

4 hours theory, 6 hours lab
Course Objectives
- 1. Describe role differentiation among levels of nursing education, practice, and activities which support the profession of nursing.
- 2. Implement patient-centered care that addresses patient’s holistic health needs while respecting their culture, preferences, and values.
- 3. Provide health education for adult patients to promote wellness and prevent disease.
- 4. Collaborate with patient and the health care team to promote continuity of care and meet patient outcomes.
- 5. Utilize effective communication techniques with patient, family, and health care team to provide optimal patient care.
- 6. Demonstrate leadership and accountability by applying an ethical decision-making framework to examine an ethical dilemma.
- 7. Implement nursing interventions according to standards of practice, procedures, and policies to provide nursing care to adult patients.
- 8. Formulate nursing judgments based on knowledge of science, nursing, and evidence-based practice.
- 9. Apply concepts of evidence-based practice to examine a nursing practice question of interest.
