NURS 103 Transition into Nursing II

At the completion of this course, students will be capable of applying theory to provide safe care for patients with common health problems. Selection of nursing actions is directed at variations resulting from five major categories of patient responses to stress (immobility, obstruction, infection, bleeding and alterations in perception).

Admission to the LPN Pathway and completion of BIOL 107, BIOL 203, BIOL 204, CHEM 103, ENGL 121, PSYC 200, and MATH 132, MATH 138, or higher

Hours Weekly

4 hours theory, 6 hours lab weekly

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Utilize knowledge of pathophysiology in the application of nursing care of patients experiencing
    common responses to stress.
  2. 2. Collaborate with the health care team and patients in acute care settings to promote continuity of care.
  3. 3. Identify and describe activities that promote the profession of nursing.
  4. 4. Demonstrate a holistic approach to the provision of nursing care to patients experiencing common
    responses to stress.
  5. 5. Demonstrate caring, integrity, safe practice and accountability in practicing the art and science of
    nursing.
  6. 6. Utilize creative problem solving in the application of the nursing process.
  7. 7. Demonstrate care in an effective and efficient manner, maintaining legal and ethical standards.
  8. 8. Interpret the impact of responses to stress on members of a multicultural society.

    There are additional objectives dealing with AFFECTIVE and PSYCHOMOTOR behaviors that should be
    demonstrated by students completing NURS-103. Required psychomotor skills are incorporated into laboratory
    skills criteria and affective behaviors are listed below.
