HMDV-150 Rouse Scholars Seminar I

This course is a special one-credit course for students enrolled in the Rouse Scholars Program. The purpose of this course is to cover selected leadership, personal, and interpersonal development topics designed to help students explore personal and leadership attributes. A significant portion of HMDV-150 involves personal and career exploration and academic success strategies.

A graduate should be able to

  1. 1. Critically summarize main issues or problems that pose a barrier to college student success, explain why they are problems, and develop a plan for success using strategies covered in class.
  2. 2. Identify interests, work values, and personality preferences, and analyze information and use it to set academic and career goals.
  3. 3. Identify key elements of effective goal setting, demonstrate ability to create achievable goals, and critically assess personal strengths and weaknesses in goal setting and achievement and develop strategies for improvement in goal attainment.
  4. 4. Use and evaluate career information to assess appropriateness and potential satisfaction of two possible career choices.
  5. 5. Identify and apply new time management and personal management strategies to increase effectiveness in stress management and academic success.
  6. 6. Create a properly-formatted resume.
