FIRE-112 Hazardous Materials Technician

This course provides training in identifying Hazardous Materials and weapons of mass destruction (WMD) incidents, using advanced surveying and monitoring equipment, selecting and using the appropriate level of personal protective equipment (PPE), and performing decontamination procedures.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Classify, identify, and verify known and unknown material by using field survey instruments
    and equipment.
  2. 2. Select and use the appropriate chemical protective equipment provided to the hazardous
    materials technician.
  3. 3. Discuss hazard and risk assessment techniques for hazardous materials environments.
  4. 4. Perform advanced control, containment, and/or confinement operations within the
    capabilities of the resources and personal protective equipment available.
  5. 5. Develop Action Plans within the parameters of the state plan for statewide response to WMD
    events.
