EDUC-191 Field Experience: Introduction To Early Childhood Education
This is a field-based course that provides the opportunity to explore the theories and methods learned regarding the various curriculum models and approaches in Early Childhood education (EDUC-130). Students will analyze some contemporary issues and problems affecting young children and learning.
Prerequisite
This course is only available to those students who have successfully completed the equivalent of Introduction to Early Childhood Education at another higher education institution but who have not completed 15 hours of field experience as part of that course (
EDUC-130). Additionally, permission of Director of Teacher Education is required in order to enroll in the course

Course Objectives
- 1. Discuss the needs of young children and outline appropriate practices for programming at each stage
of development. - 2. Identify important elements of early childhood classroom practice and philosophy in school settings
Pre-K through 3rd grade. - 3. Observe programs for young children and compare and contrast the components of these programs.
- 4. Explain the role parents play in programs for young children and list strategies for promoting parent
involvement. - 5. Identify and discuss the contemporary issues currently affecting the lives and learning of young
children.
