CNST-100 Introduction to Construction Management
This course introduces students to the construction industry and the construction management profession. Students will become familiar with market sectors, the roles and responsibilities of project team members, and career opportunities in construction management. Topics include project delivery methods, business development, contracts, project stages, estimating, contract administration, operations, scheduling, and risk management.

Course Objectives
- 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the scope of the construction industry and distinguish
between market sectors. - 2. Evaluate career paths and opportunities.
- 3. Describe the roles and responsibilities of construction project team members.
- 4. Recognize various project delivery methods.
- 5. Describe how work is secured in the construction industry.
- 6. Distinguish between various construction contract types.
- 7. Recognize the stages of the design and construction process.
- 8. Explain how to estimate, and explain how estimates vary by project stage and what factors
impact cost.
- 9. Demonstrate an ability to administer construction contracts (coordination, payment, time,
changes and dispute resolution). - 10. Identify construction operations priorities and implement job site management procedures.
- 11. Prepare, interpret and present construction project schedules.
- 12. Evaluate project performance by tracking quality, cost and time and managing project risks.
