MUSC-210P Ear Training and Musicianship III

This is the third of a four-semester sequence of ear training and musicianship courses required of all music majors. Along with MUSC-210A, Music Theory III, the course continues to focus on sharpening student skills in sight reading, sight singing, and taking dictations.

Course Objectives

1. 1. Sight sing melodies which include chromatic alterations, secondary dominants, and a diversity
   of rhythm patterns in compound and simple meter.
2. 2. Perform rhythms at sight which include syncopation in compound and simple meter, with
   divided and subdivided beat patterns.
3. 3. Take dictation of four phrase melodies with leaps up to a 7th
   .
4. 4. Take dictation of harmonic progressions which include any diatonic triad.
5. 5. Take two-part dictation containing modulations to dominant key.
   
6. 6. Take dictation containing chromatic non-harmonic tones.
