FIRE-101 Firefighter I

This course covers the introduction to basic firefighting knowledge and skills of a wide range of subjects that begin a life of learning necessary to become an expert firefighter.

Prerequisite

Submission of a medical release form which can be obtained from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services

Notes

Participation in FIRE-101 requires written verification of medical clearance from a physician or other licensed health care professional in the form of a departmental physical, personal physical, or MFRI medical questionnaire.   3. 3. Describe water distribution systems and discuss their limitations.
  4. 4. Identify the role that fixed fire protection systems play in property conservation.
  5. 5. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of ventilation.
  6. 6. Discuss the principles and deployment of hose streams.
  7. 7. Deploy and use ladders correctly.
  8. 8. Discuss and show proficiency in rescue techniques.
