DHYG-257 Dental Hygiene Ethics and Jurisprudence

This course will discuss basic ethical principles, ethical problem-solving methods, and the ethics of the American Dental Hygienist Association.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Contrast a right with a duty and a right with a privilege.
  2. 2. Identify the core values found in the Code of Ethics of the American Dental Hygienists’
    Association.
  3. 3. Compare the ethical principles found in code of ethics, informed consent, patients’ bill of
    rights, and other documents related to patient care.
  4. 4. Solve ethical dilemmas using a decision-making process.
  5. 5. Compare the concepts of criminal law and the laws regarding dental hygiene.
  6. 6. Recognize the signs of abuse (child, spouse, elderly) and reporting procedures.
  7. 7. Interpret the aspects of practice management in a dental office.
  8. 8. Discuss the role of the dental hygienist as related to the business of dentistry and time
    management.
  9. 9. Differentiate the different roles and practices of the dental hygienist.
  10. 10. Prepare for the role of dental hygienist by developing a resume, interview techniques and
    job searching skills.
  11. 11. Devise a plan for long term success as a dental hygienist.
