CNST-208 Structural Building Systems
	This course introduces students to the structural systems utilized in
building construction. Topics include investigations of forces, loading,
reactions, shear, and bending; shear wall and diaphragm systems, and braced
frame systems; moment frame systems; foundations; wood structures; steel
structures; concrete structures; choice of building construction system;
structural design standards; and the structural design process.

		Hours Weekly

2 hours lecture, 2 hours lab weekly

		Course Objectives

		- 1. Determine various design loads applied to buildings and how members react to them.
- 2. Distinguish between various structural components.
- 3. Understand the differences between various building structural systems.
- 4. Identify, describe, and illustrate the key components of different types of foundations and
 structures.
- 5. Analyze comparatively alternate building construction systems.
- 6. Understand the structural design process and the development of structural systems.
- 7. Recognize structural design and construction terminology.
- 8. Discuss building performance and failure issues.
- 9. Interpret and apply structural aspects of relevant design standards and building codes.
