DANC 114 History and Culture of Hip-Hop
In this course, students will discover the multi-cultural roots of Hip-Hop and discuss its development in America and around the world. Students will also be exposed to elements of Hip-Hop culture including the various dance forms, graffiti, emceeing, and deejaying.

Course Objectives
- Identify and chronologically organize key figures, important innovations, social and political influences, and historical events within Hip-Hop.
- Pose and address questions, and explore issues related to the creative expression of Hip-Hop in social and cultural contexts by analyzing movements, influencers, and artifacts.
- Incorporate risk-taking and creativity into problem-solving methods by using Hip-Hop constructs as a framework for self-expression in dance.
- Evaluate and analyze Hip-Hop's role in U.S. culture by exploring the elements of Hip-Hop.
- Apply theories and concepts that relate to the creativity and aesthetics of Hip-Hop within North American and other world cultures.
