EDUC 151 Practicum in Early Childhood Development
This course is designed to teach students how to implement and evaluate a quality child care program. Students are assigned to one child care setting where they will spend 10 hours per week. Students meet at the college every week for two hours to discuss lecture topics and classroom experience, or to meet individually with the instructor.

1 hour lecture, 4 hours lab weekly
Course Objectives
- 1. Organize and manage a developmentally appropriate classroom for young children.
- 2. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons in a variety of curriculum areas.
- 3. Plan and facilitate one 8-hour day to assist the supervising teacher in all activities.
- 4. Write and carry out procedures for 5 daily classroom routines.
- 5. Choose and make/provide appropriate and inexpensive play/learning materials for 5 areas
of the classroom. - 6. Work with staff to maintain high standards for the classroom and individual children.
- 7. Develop one tool for parent communication.
- 8. Individualize activities for children in the classroom.
- 9. Understand and discuss developmental issues affecting children’s behavior and
performance in the classroom. - 10. Function in a professional manner with young children and child care center staff.
