CMSY-126 Introduction to the Internet
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to safely and effectively search the Internet using various browsers and processes. Familiarity with a computer and file management skills are strongly recommended before enrolling in this course. This course may be completed in fewer than 14 weeks. All of the work for this course (except for tests) may be done outside of class.
Course Objectives
- 1. Identify common characteristics of webpages and web browsers to effectively utilize and navigate
the web. - 2. Describe how individuals, businesses, educational institutions, and organizations use the Internet.
- 3. Demonstrate the role IP addresses, domain names, and URLs play in locating webpages.
- 4. Identify the risks and safeguards related to using software and web technologies and apply those
principles when using the Internet.
- 5. Demonstrate how search engines work by adapting the proper search processes to compare results.
- 6. Identify and evaluate various online communication and collaboration tools to determine their
advantages and disadvantages when communicating via the Internet.
